How to check the Coolant (Water) Temperature Gauge
(Clicking on a photo will bring up a larger image on screen)
Normal operation is for the coolant warning indicator light to flash a few times when you turn the ignition key to the ‘ON’ position and then go off. Once the car is started and the engine warms up, the needle should gradually move to the right. How far right, depends upon the condition of the cooling system – thermostat operating correctly, correct concentration and level of coolant, type of driving, etc.
The ‘temperature sender’ (for the fuel injected Mk2) is located on the top of › Continue reading

Mk2 Scirocco Storm decals
Rear Storm and Volkswagen decal JPGs
If you need new rear decals making for your Storm, open the thumbnails below to view them at actual size then right click on the images and save them on your hard drive. Then put them on a disc and take to your friendly neighborhood sign writer.
The Storm decal measures 355mm X 23mm. The VW decal is 205mm X 25mm.
Below shows the correct location on the rear panel. My car has the Original decals so they should be accurate. These are correct for a Cosmos blue car. On Havana brown, use a silver vinyl instead of black.
Mk2 Scirocco spoilers
Scirocco tailgate spoilers
Three different tailgate spoilers have been used on the MK2 Scirocco. Here are some photos to help distinguish them from each other.
Checking Oil Pressure Warning Device (Buzzer)
How the device should work
Test Sequence From 8/81 ->
a) Engine not running – switch ignition on
—– LED must flash for about 3 seconds, buzzer should not sound
b) Engine running
Pull wire (0.5 blue/black) off oil pressure switch and increase engine speed to about 2000 rpm
—– LED must flash and buzzer sound
VAG Suspension spring codes
Hopefully the attached three pages will be of use to you, although they do not show the actual spring rates, only the colour codes.
They were taken from the VAG ‘Workshop Manual – Golf, Jetta, Scirocco – Running Gear’, May 1985 Edition which superseded the March 1979 Edition.
A Bulletin at the back states that on the 16v, the front coil springs are shorter and stiffer, and due to this the front of the car is approximately 10mm lower.
Colour Code either 1 x Grey or 2 x Grey – Part Number 533 411 105.
The shock absorbers on the 16v have a different characteristic and are stiffer -Part Number 533 413 031.
Rear coil springs on the 16v are unchanged.
Colour Code 3 x Yellow – Part Number 531 511 105 A.
The shock absorbers on the 16v have a different characteristic and are stiffer -Part Number 533 513 033.
