Brake servo and master cylinder upgrade
Upgrading the Servo and Master Cylinder. Applicable for both Mk1 and Mk2 Scirocco.
Parts Sources
Master Cylinder:
Not sure where mine came from, it was bought as new from a show, its got a Passat part number, but it’s unclear which model or year (Its dubious origin came back to bite me later though as it wasn’t an easy fit). You can get them from late mk2 (16v) and mk3 golfs, though these often have 2 outlets instead of 4.
Servo:
This came from a scrapped mk2 16v golf, it also came with master cylinder (2 oulet only) and an epansion tank that I needed.
Preparation.
This is an increadibly messy job. You’ll need tons of newspaper & rags for soaking up spilt brake fluid, and also a means of storing and disposing of about 1 litre of old brake fluid. If you’re cracking the fuel system on a K-jet engine for access, be prepared for all the mess that involves too (i.e. Rags and newspaper for petrol spills).

Replacing door pins – stop that saggy feeling!
You need:
New hinge pins, part no.321 831 421, 2you need 2 pins per door.
Plastic bushes for pins. The parts guy at VW didn;t mention to me that there is a small plastic bush in the middle part of the hinge, so if you buy the pins get the bushes too.
I had to make a couple of copper bushes otherwise i’d have been stuck, but they will last longer than the plastic ones anyway.
Method
1. Remove the door trim, so the speakers, electric windows etc, can be disconnected and the loom removed from the door. › Continue reading
Fix your MFA
If none of the functions of the MFA work, including the clock:
The first step is to disconnect the earth at the battery and then re-connect it. This serves to clear and reset the computer memories.
Then check the fuse and whether other electrical items on the circuit work. If they are all ok, then there is either an interruption in the power supply or the earth to the MFI unit, or a break in the printed circuit or the unit is faulty.
To check for a power supply connect a voltmeter to the battery live connection to the dash, not forgetting to connect the negative lead of the voltmeter to a good earth.
You can check this without removing the instrument panel cluster.
Mk2 Boot lock seal
The seal around the lock on a Mk2 Scirocco is well known for fraying, letting water into the car.
Boot lock seal is still available from VW. Try part no.V161 827 527 01C
Easy to change. Just a few screws to undo – ease out the mechanism, replace seal, refit mechanism and screws.
