Interior water leaks?
LEAKS-
got a wet carpet?
check these areas first -
front scuttle area – check heater motor seal, missing grommets under windscreen and drain holes on inner wing
rear lights
rear lights
boot/boot lock seals
badges – the clips that hold
rear side windows can allow water in – give them both a gentle push inwards too to ensure they are properly sealing
Door membranes, these can split or lose adhesion – remove the door card to check
Also test the rear light cluster seals and the rear spoiler where it’s attached to the tailgate. Need to loosen it slightly and whack a bit of clear silicone sealant in.
I’ve had this problem for ages and I’ve had dampness in the boot (passenger side), rear carpets and front carpet. The other place to look is where the bonnet release cable comes through the bulkhead – this can leak – esp if you park the car facing upwards (front end higher).
Hope this helps.
In addition to this, check under the scuttle for tears in the metal. Older Sciroccos tend to have heavy clutches and the constant pull forces can rip the metal and, in my case, pull apart the welds inside the scuttle. Came out one day to find a small pool in the rear footwell resulting in me having to take the entire interior out.
I repaired my bulkhead by bolting in a stronger plate (I didn’t want to weld with all the flammable items in there) and temporarily closed the hole in the welds with a hot glue gun reinforced with plastic. Its not the prettiest of jobs but keeps the water out.
Its also worth checking the wiper shaft seals in the scuttle panel. In particular the near side wiper, as if the seal fails, water will run into the car via the heater blower motor.
Factory fit tilt-slide sunroofs are also a common culprit, keep a check on the four plastic drain pipes (two of which run into each corner of the boot, and the other two run down the screen pillars, and out by the bulkhead.) to make sure they dont get blocked or obstructed. They are white plastic pipes, so quite easy to spot and check.
