are you sure the mixture is correct, the cam may be making it run lean at higher revs

It takes two minutes to take the jets out carefully with a screwdriver. They have codes stamped on them which will determine what they are.
Check this for jet location and the codes for 1.6 and 1.8 setup..

Also handy..

Your garage should know this as the jets may be blocked that can cause all sorts of problems. Any contamination kicking about the float bowels from fuel filler neck, tank, fuel lines..

Did you see the problems I had with my carb?

The GTI cam and head skim are definitely going to be an influence on how the car runs but I am no car tuner. I take it you know how to adjust mixture and idle? It's very straight forward on the guides available in those links somewhere?

I'll be honest a few years ago I had never been near a carb, just found myself taking one apart and the next thing I did was buy a service kit from Fast Road cars.

Obviously I will mention Petrol always being a risk but other than that it's a bit like building an fiddly Airfix model kit :good:

As said there are so many variables with your head skim and cam change so you'll need to eliminate each problem methodically.
