Rubber floor mats

Any tips on cleaning these? I don't want to end up with a sticky mat, but I've got some original VW mats I'd like to put into the GTI. They could do with being tidied up first.

Washing up liquid, stiff brush and a hose?

Give them a good scrub. Dry them and spray them heavily with Armor All Protectant Gloss Finish. Let it soak in for a couple of days and wipe the mats down with a damp cloth. The rubber is re-nourished and looks great and by wiping them down with the damp cloth removes the excess and top film preventing them from being slippy. They should retain their look for ages apart from the areas where they are being stood on obviously.

Try a good application of Swarfega Ed. This eats dirt while just sitting on it. then gently agitate with a soft brush and rinse off. I have used it on leather trim before with very impressive results (Leather needs resealing afterwards...but a good tip.)

ive git rubber vw mats in mine. all i do is take them next door to the jet wash station car wash, they put traffic film remover on it then jet wash them, mine came up quite well (then like an idiot i put tyre shine on it to get them shiny now its like an ice rink. )

the dash black type stuff that makes mats go sticky only does so coz people (mostly rental car valeters) don't know what they're doing. if you just spray it on and leave it then they will go nasty.

the floor in my truck (same rubbery stuff) gets done with mr sheen or wd40. any dashboard or vinyl shine stuff will do it. once the mats have been washed (just soapy water) and dried, spray it on, then buff it off with a clean lint free cloth. nice black mats and no sticky

Use only water based trim detailer for rubber mats so they don't get slippery.

Water based stuff for example are Meguiars Hyper Dressing and ValetPro Protectant. Both can be diluted to water: 1:1 for high gloss and 1:3 satin finish.
