Mt current setup consists of a pair of 5.25" comps up front (pioneer, may as well spend money on something decent), with the tweeters dash mounted and a pair of Alpine 6x4s in the rear. The tweeters sit at 45 deg, so are aimed towards the driver/passenger. Gives an excellent sound stage in front of driver/passenger.

I cant see why you couldn't do that with the tweeters, although the issue would then be a lack of noise coming from behind you. I had a similar setup with just front speakers and a sub, the whole lot sounded a bit strange. Also i guess it depends what head unit you've got and what sounds are sent to the rear? You obviously want all the correct sounds in the right places or it'll mess up stuff.

Cant see there being any technical issues though.

On a side note.. anyone have any good ideas where I could fit in 1/2 small 6 / 8" subs? The bass from the 6x4s isnt exactly ideal!

I once had 2 6 1/2" subs (sold as subs anyway - no doubt they were generic woofers in fact!) in a box in the rear footwell of my old polo. That kept the boot clear, but I found them too close, so they were working hard delivering very little sound.

The trick is to get the theille small parameters for any speaker you're thinking of, and then look at how big the box needs to be for the response you want to get. Once you've got an idea of how many cubic feet you need, you can walk round with a tape measure and offer up the dimensions. You may find that the recesses behind the rear arches are big enough (the serious ICE guys fibreglass boxes to maximise the use of space in such an install, then use a MDF baffle) otherwise, it's the usual boot install, but with a smaller driver/box or you could look at something in the dash...?

Yea i had been eyeing up those gaps... Not sure about the amount of damage subs in the boot might do to the alpines though? Think the big 12" sub might have seen off the two jbl's i had in there previously!

Having said that... they do come with very convenient holes ready for something to be bolted in place. Definitely something to think about and look into! Anyone have any recommendations for subs in the 6 1/2" - 8" range?

I'd be astonished if the displacement of one 12" sub could damage the 6x4"s... Just think of the air pressure when you slam the boot shut. If you were running them off a headunit (especially with a "loudness" control switched on) or loud without high pass, that's the usual cause of damage - clipping killing the voice coils.

I can't give you any brand/product recommendations... May be worth getting on one of the ICE forums with those sort of questions.

Obtuse as the statement may sound, your best 1st stop may be sound deadening... The rocco has a lot of road noise, and no sound deadening in the back 1/2 of the car... You'll need a lot less sub bass then. It's amazing how much noise there is below 100Hz -if you drive at 60 and set the sub to the "right" level, then park up, switch the engine off and listen again, you'll see what I mean. If you can get away with needing less bass overall, your choice of small woofers may be increased!

You raise a very good point, hadnt thought of that. I have looked at dynomat before (for the front of the car as i had some leakage issues so i have/had damp sound deadening). I think it was dynamat anyways... Must have a look into that. I'll add it to the list

I have the new Pods fitted with 5" components.
I'll post pics when I'm not drinking in a field but the sound quality is superb. Copies can be made if anyone wants them but they aren't cheap.
